The Bureau of Fire
Protection (BFP) received twenty (20) firetrucks from the Korea Federation of
Fire Association (KFFA) which enabled the Bureau to comply with the ASEAN
PEATLAND FOREST PROJECT’s requirement to continue with capability building
during a welcome dinner and signing of deed of donation ceremony held last night
at Trader’s Hotel, Manila.
The event was
attended with BFP top officials led by its officer-in-charge, CSUPT. Carlito
Romero, South Korean Ambassodor Hyuk Lee, ASEAN-IFAD members, and respective
firetruck recipient municipality mayors.
Romero said that
the donated firetrucks will be given to third class municipalities which have
fire stations but without firetrucks as well as those jurisdictions with
minimal firefighting capabilities to fight forest fires.
In a message sent
by Dept. of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, who wasn’t able
to attend the event due to another call of duty, he expressed gratitude to the
generosity of KFFA in donating the firetrucks to the BFP likewise pointed out
the importance of continuous strengthening of areas of cooperation of the
Philippines and international countries to sustain biodiversity and peatland
forests.
KFFA of South
Korea has donated a total of 20 firetrucks, 10 of which were already
distributed to the recipient municipalities last January 2013. The refurbished
firetrucks are complete with brand new personnel protective equipment (PPE)
costing roughly around sixty million pesos (Php 60,000,000.00)
The event also
included giving of recognition by the ASEAN Secretariat and the BFP-DILG to the
Korea Federation of Fire Association in cognizance of its support to the Bureau
through the donated firetrucks.
